Freewriting

Freewriting is an exercise that we do at the beginning of every class period. This exercise is to help our brains with coming up with ideas, and continue to write. Even if the ideas are running out your brain will still be working to keep writing, this is when some of the best ideas can occur.

Looking back on what I have written over the past couple of months I have seen some patterns. First off, there is a lot of writing regarding sports, which makes sense because that's what my brain is always thinking about. Along with that though, I noticed that towards the beginning of my writing I always start off with something basic, my brain isn’t fully warmed up or awake. This will lead to my topics either being consistent for the week, or completely random. I had a week where I wrote about sports and then about sleep. I must've been tired the day I wrote about sleep. So towards the beginning of this exercise my brain was taking the easy way out, when it came to selecting topics.

My current or most recent blogs have been a lot more productive. The topics are varied and relevant to what was going on in the days prior. I have been diving deeper into different types of topics, sports, weather, and other work I have been getting in class. My Brain is starting to adapt to the exercise in the mornings, this is making me more productive and makes the thoughts flow more efficiently. Along with the topics improving, the actual writing is improving too. The sentences are easier to write and flow better on the page, less choppy writing is occurring.

This exercise has helped my brain and I adapt and improve in writing. Going from simple sentences and topics, to more elaborate ideas and writing I have seen major improvements. I recommend this exercise to others and think it is beneficial to improve as a writer.
